Museum of the Future opens in Dubai

The Museum of the Future is a seven-storey building, located in Dubai’s financial district and was designed by the architect Shaun Killa. The museum promises to bring together ‘futurists, thinkers, innovators and the public.’ There are five different ‘experiential displays’ in the museum, as well as laboratories and workshops. It took 18 months for the 17,600-square-metre facade, which is made of 1,024 pieces of stainless steel, to be constructed. The outside of the building is covered with quotes in Arabic calligraphy, including ‘the future belongs to those who can imagine it, design it, and execute it’, words of Dubai’s ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum. In the Journey to the Future exhibition, visitors can virtually travel to a space station, 600km above Earth, while Digital Amazon will give visitors a chance to experience the rainforest.
