Hacks that will make food last longer
1. Don’t keep onions and potatoes together
It’s always frustrating when ingredients start to go past their best, before you’ve had a chance to cook with them. In current times people are trying not to go to supermarkets as much and trying to make do with the things they have at home so keeping food fresh for longer is ideal. Luckily there are some simple hacks to prolong the shelf life of your favorite food and drinks and make them last longer. For example if you want potatoes to keep for longer, start by storing them in a separate place to your onions. Both potatoes and onions produce a gas called ethylene that causes the other to spoil faster. You may also think storing bread in the fridge will help prevent it from drying out, but it’ll actually go stale quicker than at room temperature. Cold temperatures cause the starch in bread to recrystallize more quickly than it would in a warmer environment leading to staleness.
