Turkey has a wide range of culinary variety especially in Istanbul but its their street food that you need to try. The breakfast staple is Simit which is one of the most famous and iconic Turkish street foods, it is bread covered entirely with sesame seeds and goes perfectly with Turkish tea. Dondurma is Turkish ice cream which is chewy and stretchy.Other traditional foods include Kestane and Misir which are roasted chestnuts and corn on the cob, Kumpir which are liked baked jacket potatoes filled with various different toppings such as sausage, cheese and much more. Balik ekmek is another famous dish and is perfect for a stroll along the sea, its freshly grilled fish sandwiched between white bread with plenty of tomatoes, onions and herbs. Other favourites include Kağıt Helva, a thin papery wafer filled with condensed milk, Dürüm which is doner kebab inside lavash style bread, Midye Dolma is mussels filled with herbed rice, currants and pine nuts with lemon on the side and finally lahmacun a Turkish pizza which is dough topped with minced meat and an onion and pepper mixture.
